General Licence Application Requirements

To apply for a Condominium Management General Licence, you will provide the following information:

1. Names

· Full Legal name

  • Any previous names in which education was completed or condo management services provided (name in which police or court records held).
  • Reason for change of names
  • Name requested for the certificate of licence (e.g. short form or name by which you are commonly known).

2. Date of Birth

3. Addresses

· Address for Service (mailing address) and email address for service from CMRAO

· If a dwelling will be used by the applicant/licensee to carry out condo management business:

  • address of that dwelling;
  • name, phone and email address for the owner or person who controls access to the dwelling; and
  • confirmation that the owner or person is aware that CMRAO may access the dwelling under special circumstances.

4. Condo Management Work Experience

For every condo management employment situation within the past five years, including self-employment, provide:

  • Employer name and address
  • Start and end dates
  • Description of condo management responsibilities and activities as they relate to the definition of condominium management services
  • Duration of employment expressed in total hours worked in condo management
  • Contact information for person who can verify employment information
  • If you are currently employed by 2 or more condominium management providers firms, you must confirm that you have obtained written consent to do so from those employers

5. Education Requirements

Initial education requirements are based on the following 4 courses developed by the Association of Condominium Managers of Ontario (ACMO):

(i) Condominium Law

(ii) Physical Building Management

(iii) Financial Planning for Condominium Managers

(iv) Condominium Administration and Human Relations

If you successfully completed any of the four courses at a College, then provide the name(s) of the college(s) where you completed your education.

If you completed any of the 4 courses through in-house company training, then provide the name and address of the company where you took the courses as well as the name, phone number and email address for a contact person at that company who validate that you completed the courses.

If you completed some or all of the courses at a college and you have not successfully completed the RCM exam or challenge exams, then you will need to contact your college and advise that they send transcripts to the CMRAO:

6. Police Record Check

You must submit a police record check dated no earlier than 6 months before you submit your licence application.

CMRAO has partnered with Sterling Talent Solutions ( to offer a convenient online criminal record check solution.

To save time while completing your licence application, you can complete your criminal record check now, before CMRAO begins accepting licence applications on November 1. Follow these simple steps:

  1. Visit and select “Start My Check!”
  2. You will need to register for a myBackCheck account and create a username and password.
  3. Once registered, you will receive a confirmation of registration e-mail from Open it and click on the web link to activate your account.
  4. Type in your username and password to log in. Once logged in click on the ‘Inbox’ tab at the top of the page to find your Invitation.
  5. Click on the CMRAO Invitation, which will allow you to click ‘Accept and Continue’ to move forward with your check.
  6. Continue with the steps and pay online by credit card ($19.80 plus tax – if applicable).
  7. After the purchase is complete, click on “my Account” and then click ‘Continue’ to proceed with the criminal record check.
  8. Enter your identity information.
  9. Disclose any criminal records. These details will be used by the police department to verify any potential record you may have, so remember to be as accurate as possible.
  10. Review the Term and Conditions.
  11. Verify your ID online, or if you do not pass the ID online process, print the Canada Post ID Verification Form and take it to your nearest participating Canada Post location to have your IDs verified and submitted to No money needs to be given to the Canada Post representative as this payment is included in the initial fee through the site.

Results of your check will be processed and the results released within one business day. Your results will be shared with CMRAO at the same time that they are released to you. The cost is $19.80.

7. Financial Responsibility and Good Character Information

  • If you are now or have ever been involved in Bankruptcy, Consumer Proposal or Proposal Proceedings under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act, then you must attach discharge papers, assignments or other related documentation
  • Information and background documents about bankruptcies, consumer proposals or proposed proceedings under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act if the corporation went bankrupt or into proposed bankruptcy while the applicant was an officer or director.
  • If you have any unpaid judgements outstanding against you from a court, administrative tribunal or regulatory body, you must attach a copy of each judgement and include a statement of the amount outstanding and repayment arrangements
  • Information about employment termination related to competence or failure to manage and account for money, including the employer’s name, the date of termination and a description of the details.
  • Information about a professional licence or registration that was refused, suspended, or revoked or that was voluntarily terminated during an investigation.
  • Information about charges, convictions or finding of guilt of an offence other the Highways and Traffic Act and parking offences other than those reported in the police record check.
  • Information about any current investigation in a proceeding of a licensing/regulatory body.
  • Information about a finding of negligence made against the applicant in a civil or criminal proceeding in Canada or another jurisdiction.


Application Fee: $150

  • As part of the online application process, you will be required to pay a $150 application fee. You will not be able to submit the application without paying this fee.

Initial Licensing Fee: $405

  • Once your application has been reviewed and approved, you will be required to pay the initial licensing fee. The initial licensing fee for a general licence will be $405. This is a proration of the $607 annual licensing to cover the 8-month period from November 1, 2017 – June 30, 2018.

Initial Licensing Fee with 10% early application incentive: $364

  • CMRAO is pleased to offer a 10% early application incentive. If you submit your application between November 1 and December 15, 2017 and pay your fee within 30 days of receiving your approval notice, your initial application fee will be reduced to $364.
