Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) describes a process used by the CMRAO to ensure a fair assessment of the credentials and qualifications of applicants who have not completed the recognized coursework required to hold a General Licence.
Currently, applicants for a General Licence must successfully complete the following four courses developed by the Association of Condominium Managers of Ontario (ACMO):
Applicants who, prior to November 1, 2017, had five or more years’ experience in providing condominium management services also have the option of taking any of the corresponding challenge exams in lieu of any individual course.
Legislation permits the Registrar of the CMRAO to recognize learning achieved through a variety of means, such as previous formal training and education and work experience as a substitute to prescribed courses. Section 11(3) of the General Regulation made under the Condominium Management Services Act, 2015, states,
“(3) For the purposes of paragraph 2 of subsection (1), the registrar may recognize any of the following as equivalent to successfully completing some or all of the requirements specified under section 5:
Applications and supporting documents will be assessed to determine if an applicant's previous experience and knowledge meet the required competencies of a condominium manager.
To apply, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org expressing an interest in the RPL process.
Applicants will be asked to provide the following:
Applicants may be asked for additional information and/or documentation during the RPL evaluation process. Once the evaluation process is complete, applicants will receive a letter detailing the decision.
