When and how to apply

On November 1, 2017, the CMRAO began licensing condo managers and management companies. The application deadline has been extended. You now have until March 30, 2018 to make an application. After that date, it will be illegal to continue providing condo management service unless you have a condo management licence or have made an application for one.

Individual condo managers can apply for one of three licences, depending on education and experience in condo management.

  1. General Licence
  2. Transitional General Licence
  3. Limited Licence

Condo management firms should apply for a Condominium Management Provider Licence, the fourth kind of licence available through the CMRAO. Once your application has been submitted, you can continue providing condo management services until the CMRAO has made a decision on your application.

When to apply:

  • November 1, 2017: CMRAO web portal opens for licence applications
  • March 30, 2018: Last day for applications for a Condominium Manager Transitional General Licence
  • March 31, 2018: You can only provide condo management services if you have applied for, or hold a condo management licence.

Illegal condo management practice may jeopardize future licence applications.

How to Apply:

You can submit a licence application online through the CMRAO website. To submit an application, please follow these steps:

1. Find out what licence you need

For individuals, the type of licence you can apply for depends on your level of experience and education in condo management. Find out which licence you should apply for.

2. Collect the information you will need to complete the licence application

Read the application instructions to find out what information you need to gather before you start the application process.

3. Register for an account

Register an account on the CMRAO website using a personal email address. By using a personal email address, you will continue to receive important emails in the event that you change employers and lose access to your company email account. It is your responsibility to renew your licence each year and keep your information up-to-date.

4. Complete the licence application form

Once you register your account, select the “Apply” button on the appropriate licence instruction page and complete the application form.

5. Pay the application fee

Once the CMRAO has received your licence application, our staff will review it to ensure that you meet the requirements for the licence. If your application is approved, we will provide instructions to login to the system to pay your annual licence fee.

After you pay your annual fee, the CMRAO will email your licence to you. You can display your certificate of licence on a digital device or print it as a wallet card and wall certificate.
